Maine 6-year-old raises $ 1,500 to prevent animal cruelty

It always blows my mind when I hear stories about children who have such a burning desire to help others in need! This level of empathy is something many of us don’t develop until we’re fully cooked adults, if ever! When you see these qualities in such a young person, it is clear that they are going to move on to amazing things and change the world!
According to Maine News Center, lLucas West, six years old last week, from Woolwich Maine, was struggling to sit still on his school’s playground. Like many children his age, Lucas brings a lot in the area of ââenthusiasm and energy. But lately he has focused his efforts on a very important cause.
The news site said a few months ago, Lucas was watching television when an ASPCA commercial started playing. The advertisement showed animals in need of a home and currently living on the streets. Lucas’s mother looked at her son only to see tears streaming down his face. SO MUCH EMPATHY! He asked his mother what they could do to help these adorable animals! The idea for a bottle drive came up and Lucas jumped on board.
They created a Facebook event for Lucas’s bottle drive with a modest goal of raising $ 100. (He’s 6 after all!) Well that goal was quickly blown out of the water and according to the article they were at $ 1,475 on Sunday April 25.
