The Professional Fighters League is ready for its second event of 2021 and is back to its regular Thursday night schedules. The promotion sees another big signing Rory MacDonald make his debut against the short-notice UFC replacement and Bellator veteran Curtis Millender. The co-main event sees reigning welterweight champion Ray Cooper III taking on Jason Ponet.
For those who may not be aware, the PFL is a regular season and playoff format like stick and ball sports. A decision win earns you three points, a first round finish earns you six, a second round earns you five, and a third round earns you four. The winner also receives $ 1 million at the end of the year.
The PFL 2 main card airs live on ESPN2 at 9:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, April 29, 2021, from Atlantic City, New Jersey. The table below shows the main card odds at DraftKings followed by the best bets.

What does MacDonald look like when he first started out?
Rory MacDonald was a popular free agent who signed in 2016 when he went to Bellator, in 2020 it wasn’t the same draw when he signed with the PFL, but it’s still a big signing for promotion. However, he has a tough test on his debut against Curtis Millener.
Recent MacDonald & Millender Fights
|Douglas Lima, lost by decision (title fight)||Fight 1||Sabah Homasi, loss by decision|
|Neiman Gracie, decision win (title fight)||Fight 2||Moses Murrieta, win by decision|
|Jon Fitch, draw (title fight)||Fight 3||Belal Muhammad, loss by decision|
|Gegard Mousasi, defeated by TKO (middleweight title fight)||Fight 4||Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, submission loss|
MacDonald has been unlike him since the outright war he had against Robbie Lawler at UFC 189 for the UFC welterweight title. He mentioned that he no longer liked violence while trying to become a pastor. In his last few fights, he struggled to pull the trigger, which is why he lost his belt to Lima the last time around.
Still, there is a clear path to victory over Curtis Millender and it uses his struggle.
MacDonald and Millender Statistics
|6’0 ”||Height||6 ft 2 in|
|76 inch||Reach||78 inch|
If MacDonald fights like he did against Jon Fitch and Douglas Lima, he could very well be upset in this fight. Millender is a forward who will be in the face of the Canadiens as soon as the bell rings. However, the problem for the UFC veteran has been his defense against withdrawal, as that’s how he lost his last two UFC fights and his most recent fight.
In the fight, I expect MacDonald to use his fight to take Millender down at will and hammer him as he seeks a stop or submission. Still, Millender is durable enough to survive, but I don’t see him able to get up and stop MacDonald from taking him. Ultimately, MacDonald should win the fight by decision.
Pick: Rory MacDonald (-530)
Can Ponet succeed in the upheaval?
Ray Cooper III seeks to repeat himself as a champion, while Jason Ponet seeks to become a household name.
Recent fights of Cooper III & Ponet
|David Michaud, won by TKO||Fight 1||Ahmed Labban, victory by split decision|
|Chris Curtis, victory by KO||Fight 2||Rafael de Vilhena Costa, victory by submission|
|Sadibou Sy, draw||Fight 3||BJ Bland, victory by TKO|
|John Howard, defeated by KO||Fight 4||Joilton Lutterbach, loss by decision|
Ponet is a career lightweight who steps up to welterweight for the tournament and has his hands full in Ray Cooper III. The Hawaiian is an excellent boxer with legitimate knockout power, but his fight has been one of his weaknesses.
Ultimately, I don’t expect Ponet to be able to defeat Cooper III, and the Hawaiian will eventually find the knockout blow in the second round. Cooper’s line in the PFL 2 odds doesn’t have much value, but playing Cooper III and MacDonald to win isn’t a terrible option.
Picks: Ray Cooper III (-590)
Other PFL 2 choices:
- Gleison Tibau (-305): Tibau should use his grappling to win the fight and playing it with Cooper III is a bet I like to get much better odds.
- Emiliano Sordi (-400): Sordi is the defending champion and is legit. He should be able to use his grappling to win the fight.
