Danny Green out for 2-3 weeks with a calf injury

Danny Green started in Game 3 against Atlanta but came out early after limping off the field. Green stayed on the sidelines the rest of the game, switching from his uniform to street clothes to watch the remaining three quarters.

When speaking to the media after the game, Sixers head coach Doc Rivers incredibly doubted Green was suitable for Game 4.

“I’m not ruling him out in the next game, but I’m ruling him out in the next game,” said Rivers.

Today it was revealed that Green will stay on the sidelines even beyond Game 4. The veteran sniper is set to miss two to three weeks with calf strain, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The news serves as a punch to a skyrocketing team during the playoffs. The loss of three-time NBA champion Green hampers the team at both ends of the field. Offensively, the ground spacing of its formidable three-point ability offerings will be difficult to replicate. At the other end of the court, his defensive tenacity and high basketball IQ will be sorely missed.

Green is one of the best 3-and-D guys in the league and was instrumental in the Sixers’ success starting five. His absence will be an obstacle for Philly, but one for which they are well equipped.

“We have a lot of guys who can play,” said Joel Embiid. “Danny [Green] is a big part of what we do, I hope he’s okay.

Until Green is healthy enough to come back, the depth Embiid spoke enthusiastically about the need to take his place. With their goals set on a championship, the Sixers will need to regroup quickly as they deal with the unfortunate news of injuries.

Seth Curry and Furkan korkmaz, the two most likely to take over from Green, have been excellent lately. Both players were incredibly efficient, shooting the ball confidently and knocking all three down at a high rate.

Over 7 playoff games, Seth Curry is averaging

17.3 points
2.7 assists
0.4 turnover
54.8% FG%
45.5% 3 points%
6.3 three point attemptspic.twitter.com/qSJoPFTuVv

Both players have set new career playoff highs over the past two weeks and looked set to keep the Sixers steady while Green heals. We will continue to monitor the situation, but for now high doses of Curry and Korkmaz appear to be in order.
