Celebrate “Thank You Day” with your neighbors by joining “The Big Lunch” at Northampton Park
A big lunch will be held at Northampton Racecourse on Sunday 4th July to celebrate “Thank You Day”.
The Northampton freelance writer is “stunned” that the initiative she helped promote has grown from a small idea to a national event in which more than 16 million people are expected to attend.
Laura said: “The wave of support has been incredible. The fact that ‘Thank You Day’ has gained such momentum over the past few months shows just how great there is an appetite for a National Day of Thanksgiving.
“I’m proud of the small role I played in helping to make it happen.”
Celebrating good neighbors and bringing community together has always been important to Laura, who has had a “Big Lunch” on her street for the past five years.
“The Big Lunch” is the UK’s annual neighborly gathering made possible by the National Lottery. This is one of the flagship activities of the “Day of Thanksgiving” which will take place this weekend to encourage communities to come together for a bite to eat in the afternoon.
Laura continued, “This will be the first time we’ve all connected as a group of neighbors since 2019 and we have really missed that sense of community. Our previous big lunches have brought together a bunch of strangers. It sparked friendships. and has helped us feel happier and more secure where we live. “
The original plan was to host the annual ‘Big Lunch’ street party to coincide with ‘Thank You Day’, but, with the complete relaxation of lockdown restrictions having been pushed back to July 21, that was no longer possible. .
As a result, the neighborhood meeting has been moved to the racetrack where there is more space for residents to socially distance themselves and bring picnic blankets, food and drinks for a safe gathering. security.
Laura added: “This Sunday is really important because, while it will be a smaller gathering than we would have liked, it is the first step in reconnecting and strengthening an important community.
“We will be celebrating two birthdays of our neighbors on this day and welcoming new neighbors, who moved to the streets during Covid. For me, it’s a chance to say ‘thank you’ because knowing that I have people who live on my street caring about each other is everything.
“I really hope the people of Northampton will join me in hosting the country’s very first national thank you celebration this Sunday and having a big, socially safe lunch to thank you together … even though it is about a big breakfast! “
