Daily Discovery: Filipino R & B-Pop Artist Kiana V Insights On Ethereal New Single “Dazed”
Kiana V’s New Single “Dazed” Opens with Sparkling Electric Piano Chord Series So vibey that they can instantly melt the outside world, sending you on a journey to dreamland… then, when the voice of Filipino R & B-pop artist is heard, it’s clear you’ve arrived at your destination.
Drumless, V’s ethereal melodies – carrying introspective lyrics – float in an ultra-smooth soundscape with beds of brilliant harmonies in and out like the Northern Lights in a deep night sky. This makes sense given its process. “I really like writing the lyrics and the melody first and then finding the right producer to perform the song and build the beat,” she told American Songwriter.
The single “Dazed” is released a corresponding EP, also named Stunned–which fell on July 30. Demonstrating his prowess as a leading writer and his ear for tasteful arrangements, the work as a whole is a brilliant testament to his talents. “Dazed” itself was the product of a time she took away from the world to reflect on her life through music.
“I wrote this song at a time when I really didn’t know who I was,” V says. “I felt like I needed a little reintroduction to myself. It’s about pushing and pulling for inner healing and fighting negative self-talk – learning to move forward and break self-imposed limits. It’s the most stripped-down song I’ve released, which makes it ideal for quiet soul-searching, which is exactly what I wanted.
To that end, “Dazed” is also a product of V’s holistic approach to song-making. While she values the process of turning her personal experiences into meaningful tracks, she is also a hard worker and understands that songwriting isn’t all about just “feeling” down. Asked about the best and worst writing tips she’s ever received, she started with the best: “Save everything,” she said. “The short lines, the footnotes, the seemingly irrelevant ideas… you never know what they can lead to when the time is right!” Worst piece of advice I have ever received: “Be yourself. What does it mean?”
Candid, straightforward and daring with his art, V is part of an exciting new wave of Filipino creators who share their music and culture through a variety of innovative and genre-appropriate lenses. Based in Los Angeles now, everything from her music to her visuals to her themes shows that V is a formidable voice – she may have transported listeners to dreamland with “Dazed,” but her own journey didn’t. just started and its destination is bound to be a great place.
