Friday’s ‘NewsRap Local’ TV show will feature guest Craig Washington, 2028 president of the Tournament of Roses – Pasadena Now
Pasadena Media’s local news talk show “NewsRap Local With Justin Chapman” continues at 5 p.m. Friday with featured guest Craig Washington, who will be the second African-American president of the Tournament of Roses Association in 2028 , coinciding with the Olympic Games in Los AngÃ¨le.
Washington has worked his way up the organization as a volunteer member since 2000, having served as chair of the Queen & Court, Equestrian, Student Ambassadors and Formation Area committees, vice chair of the Decorating Places, Coronation, Kickoff and Tailgate committees, and as a member of the board of directors of the Tournoi de Roses Foundation. He will lead the 139th Rose Parade and the 114th Rose Bowl Game on January 1, 2028. His daughter, Drew Washington, was the second African American Queen of Roses in 2012.
Washington is currently a regional contract manager for Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., one of the world’s largest technical services companies. He had previously been appointed by Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and City Council Member John Kennedy to chair the Northwest Commission.
âThe pandemic has impacted all institutions in Pasadena, including the Tournament of Roses,â said host Justin Chapman, a Pasadena-based reporter since 2005 who was recently nominated for two Los Angeles Press Club awards. “We will be discussing with future tournament president Craig Washington plans for this year’s Rose Parade and what the future holds for the Tournament of Roses.”
“NewsRap Local” was launched in April and airs the third Friday of each month on Pasadena Media’s Arroyo channel and streaming apps, available on channel 99 on AT&T U-verse, channel 32 on Charter Spectrum, YouTube, Facebook, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku.
In each episode, Chapman provides an analysis of local news, presents a âflashâ of the main stories of the month, and interviews a special guest or facilitates a panel for a deep dive into an important issue facing the community. It’s the only TV show that focuses exclusively on Pasadena news and politics.
âNewsRap Localâ is written by Chapman, directed by Joshua Morales, produced by Chapman and Aaron Wheeler and produced by George Falardeau, CEO and Executive Director of Pasadena Media. The show is a spinoff of a former weekly Pasadena Media show called “NewsRap”. co-hosted by Pasadena now Editor-in-Chief Andre Coleman and Barry Gordon.
