George Harrison’s son Dhani: the only child of the late Beatle
Of all the Beatles, it was George Harrison who had the smallest family. Her only child, her son Dhani, was born on August 1, 1978, eight years after the legendary band split.
While in the Beatles, George married a model Pattie Boyd in January 1966, after meeting her two years earlier while filming the group’s film A hard day’s Night. The marriage did not produce any children and the couple separated in 1974, their divorce being finalized three years later, in 1977.
George quickly found the love of his life with American writer and producer Olivia Arias. She first met the musician in 1974 while working in the marketing department of A&M records, which handled the distribution of the singer’s “Give Me Love” label, Dark Horse. The two connected quickly and fell in love.
Olivia gave birth to the couple’s only child, son Dhani, four years later at Princess Christian Nursing Home in Windsor, England, a month before the couple married in September 1978. Dhani spent her early years growing up. in George’s longtime home, a Victorian Gothic mansion built in 1889 called Friar Park, in Henley-on-Thames, England. The singer bought the estate in 1970, and it will remain George’s primary residence until his death in 2001.
Dhani was educated at private boarding schools close to his family home, attending Badgemore Primary School and Shiplake College. But when it comes to his college education, Dhani jumped on the water to go to college in the United States. He attended Brown University in Rhode Island, where he earned a bachelor’s degree after studying industrial design and physics.
He first used his skills to work as an automotive designer for MacLaren Automotive, before entering the music industry in time to work on the production of his father’s latest album, Brainwashing. It was released on November 18, 2002, barely a year after George died from a battle with cancer.
“I took a music and computer class – and I failed,” Dhani said, laughing in May 2018 with Brown alumni magazine why he did not study academic music during his studies. He added: “The irony is that these are the two things I use the most in my life and that I master the best.” Dhani pursued a successful career in music, while bearing a striking resemblance to his famous father.
