Amy mccormick
November 1, 1976 – December 1, 2021
Blythewood, South Carolina – Amy (Catherine) Elizabeth McCormick, 45, of Blythewood, South Carolina (formerly Bloomington, Indiana) died on December 1, 2021 after a long illness. Daughter of Michael and Cynthia McCormick, she was born on November 1, 1976 in Lexington, SC.
Creative expression and spirit life were essential for Amy. From her early days at school, she won numerous academic awards, including being chosen as one of only two South Carolina students in 1994 named Presidential Scholars. Amy received an Honors BA in English Literature from South Carolina Honors College and completed an MA in Religious Studies course at the University of South Carolina. She has worked in bookstores, as a freelance writer and as an editor at college publisher Bruccoli Clark Layman. An accomplished storyteller, she wrote continually in many forms and was a gifted artist and painter (although she always noted, “I never wanted to be a writer for the sake of being a writer. I wanted to be a writer for the sake of being a writer. glorify God.).
Amy’s Christian faith was pure, deep, serious, and boundless by a particular doctrine. She read and studied both the Bible and religious thinkers as a dedicated vocation. She has participated in both the Antioch Orthodox Faith (going to All Saints Orthodox Church in Bloomington) and Southern Baptist Churches (in her childhood home in West Virginia and more recently in the Baptist Church Sandy Level in Blythewood). All along, Amy radiated a clear connection with God. Those who spoke to her often recounted a “humbling” inspiration in her faith.
In nature, she found comfort and expression from God. From childhood hikes through the rolling hills of West Virginia and ‘screaming’ with her grandparents, to life on the Blythewood farm, to long hikes with her daughter in the parks of Bloomington, nature has it. restored and inspired.
In recent years, Amy’s life has been devoted to her daughter Marah. Motherhood has given her a playmate, a co-creator of stories, and a young soul to nurture. In this role, Amy has found the continued fulfillment of her creativity, caring spirit, and Christian mission.
Amy is predeceased by grandparents Curtis and Delma McCormick and Franklin and Mildred Dyches.
She is survived by her daughter Marah, her father Michael, her mother Cynthia, her brother Christopher (Jennifer), her sister Robin (Andy), her niece Devin and her grandmother (Sondra).
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5 at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home (4645 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29229). The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 6, at the Sandy Level Baptist Church (408 Blythewood Rd, Blythewood, SC 29016).
In lieu of flowers, commemorative contributions can be made to World Vision (www.wvi.org/donate). Good memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared on www.kornegayandmoseley.com for the McCormick family. Please sign the guestbook online at www.kornegayandmoseley.com
