Marvel concept artist Marek Okon takes a closer look at Captain America’s makeover for New York’s newest and greatest Avenger. Spider-Man: No Coming Home. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, an under construction version of the Green Goddess wields Captain America’s shield and serves as the playground for a battle between the Spider-Men – Peter Parker #1 (Tom Holland), Peter #2 (Tobey Maguire), and Peter #3 (Andrew Garfield) – and multiversal intruders magically transported into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including sinister supervillains Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Electro (Jamie Foxx).

“The goal here was not to create flashy key art images, but rather to build [an] interesting playground for our heroes. I did a lot of cross-sections and 3D floor layouts which were then used to plan the camera framing and the action flow,” Okon wrote as part of a Twitter thread. ” I used [software] mixer and [renderer] Eevee for a real-time preview while showing these spaces to my wonderful production designer Darren Gilford @DGilfordDesign. These 3D spaces were then transferred to Unreal Engine and we used virtual reality to look at them from a human point of view. It was pretty amazing.”

An idea caused the construction site to catch fire as America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who is now making her debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, appears in the climax. Neither concept made it into the finished film. In concept art previously shared by Okon, the final battle between the Spider-Men and the villains “involved burning down and slowly destroying the scaffolding so that the continued fight on the Statue of Liberty below was revealed.”

The Statue of Liberty tribute comes after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) removed the mantle in End of Game, entrusting the shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who becomes the new Captain America in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

With Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx and Benedict Cumberbatch, Spider-Man: No Coming Home now plays exclusively in theaters.
