BRIDGTON — Painter Phyllis Tracy is new to the cooperative gallery at Gallery 302 at 112 Main Street.

She lives and paints in the Mount Washington Valley in northern New Hampshire.

Artist all her life, she used her artistic talent in all her career choices. A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art with a bachelor of fine arts in art education and painting, she began her journey as an art teacher in a public school, according to a press release from the gallery.

Growing up in Marblehead, Massachusetts, a love of the ocean and seaside life inspired her interest in painting. The creeks and marshes of the East Coast are among her favorite places when she feels the need to create.

She moved to the Rockies in Sun Valley, Idaho with her high school sweetheart (soon to be husband) to ski and hike. There she found work as a framer for a local artist.

A return east to Marblehead to start a family led to being a full-time mother of two energetic boys, which meant little time for painting. As soon as they were in school, she developed her own business, Faux Finishing and Mural Painting, for homes on the North Shore and Boston, Massachusetts.

These opportunities revealed the need to provide color consultations to people who struggle to find the perfect palette for their residences. She, in turn, used those skills to grow her current 20+ year-old business, Phyllis Tracy Interiors.

Always on the lookout for the silver lining, when COVID made it difficult to enter people’s homes and travel for interior design, she decided to refocus her attention on her fine art painting.

Her original oil paintings and prints are featured at Marblehead Frame and Art in Marblehead, in addition to local exhibitions at the Marblehead Arts Association and the Mount Washington Valley Arts Association. She is a jury member of Oil Painters of America and American Women Artists.
