Poetry Month April 2022
John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library
April is poetry month! Take a pen and write a poem. Optional writing topic: anything ocean related. It is a program for all ages. Drop off your poem at the John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library Loan Desk or email, [email protected], by Thursday, May 5, 2022. Top two poems selected by library staff will win prizes! We will announce the winners on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
Arab Heritage Month Quiz with Draw
Drop by the Caroline Kennedy Library for weekly quizzes and raffles throughout April to celebrate Arab Heritage Month. Quiz questions will be posted on Monday of each week on a special display featuring Arabic food in front of the loan desk. Answers to trivial questions can be placed in the designated box near the screen. Customers who correctly answer the weekly quiz questions will be entered into a prize draw. Each week, we will feature a cultural recipe that customers can pick up at the Caroline Kennedy Library, next to the Arabic Dishes exhibit.
Ramadan Book Display and Lantern Craft Kit
Throughout April, stop and check out the Ramadan Book Exhibit at the Caroline Kennedy Library. Lantern craft kits will be available for pickup outside of our Friends of the Library store. DIY kits are suitable for all ages. For more information, please call Saba Al-Hachami at (313) 791-3800.
English as a second language (ESL) conversation course
Improve your English and meet new people with English conversation classes. These free, walk-in classes will increase your confidence and fluency in speaking. Learners with different levels of language skills are welcome.

In this talk, Andrew Lapin, local news editor for the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, will show you how to craft the perfect pitch, interact with editors, build a lasting portfolio, and earn money doing what you love. Come with questions; bring your own pitch or piece to the workshop; or feel free to network. Whether you are an independent veteran or a beginner, you will find something for you.
Faithful companions: lead dogs for the blind

Leader Dogs for the Blind is an organization that provides specially trained assistance dogs to someone who is visually impaired. Meet Cathy McAdam and her chef dog, Lucy. Cathy will explain how a person is paired with their leader dog and the intensive training they both receive. She will also explain how these amazing service animals provide their owner with a life of independence, confidence and companionship. During her life, Cathy had 8 lead dogs. His experiences and connections with these faithful fellow servants have allowed him a life that many of us who are sighted take for granted – going to college, working, traveling extensively, attending sporting events and concerts, to name a few.

Virtual Storytime on Zoom with Mr. Jim

Our story hours are aimed at preschoolers and feature music and three simple stories. For security and privacy reasons, we recommend that you attend without turning on the camera.
