WOW2: August Women Pioneers and Events in Our History
“We cannot accept any code or creed which uniformly
deprives women of all their natural rights.
— Elizabeth Cady Stanton, The Woman’s Bible
WOW2 is a four times a month sister blog to This week in the war on women. This edition covers the women and events of From August 25 to August 31.
The next episode of WOW2 will be on September 3, 2022.
“We take a stand on the solidarity of humanity,
the unity of life, and the abnormality and
the injustice of any particular favouritism, whether
sex, race, country or condition. If a link from
the chain is broken, the chain is broken.
— Anna Julia Cooper,
The cause of women is unique and universal
“In traditional societies, we have a long heritage of men
control women’s bodies and minds. Such companies
valued motherhood and fabricated concepts like
chastity. Women have been victims of these notions
For thousands of years.”
— Dr. Taslima NasrinBangladeshi writer and poet —
his books banned, his life threatened, forced into exile
The purpose of WOW2 is to discover and honor successful women, including those who have been ignored or marginalized in most history books, and to mark moments in women’s history. It also serves as a reference archive on women’s history. There are so many more phenomenal women than I ever dreamed of finding, and too often their stories are almost unknown even to feminists and scholars.
These pioneers have much to teach us about perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds. I hope you find as much inspiration as I do in reclaiming our past..
THIS WEEK IN THE WAR ON WOMEN
